Welcome to our PrecisionGo Bioinformatician!

We’re thrilled to introduce Thomas to the team as our new bioinformatician! Thomas brings a rare combination of wet-lab and dry-lab expertise that few researchers can claim. Formally trained as an immunologist, he spent his early career developing and applying high-parameter human tissue flow cytometry, giving him a deep appreciation for the data long before it ever hits a pipeline. That hands-on instinct now underpins everything he builds computationally.

Since transitioning into bioinformatics, Thomas has specialised in some of the most cutting-edge spatial and imaging modalities available, including Visium, VisiumHD, Xenium, CosMx, IMC, and COMET. He develops analysis workflows that integrate sequencing and imaging data and has a particular knack for turning complex analyses into teachable, accessible formats. He's been invited to lead national and international workshops on spatial data analysis. Here at WIMR, he founded the Digital Research Skills Network (DRSN), an institute-wide initiative to upskill researchers in bioinformatics and data science. His work has been recognised with several travel scholarships and invitations over the past three years, including presentations at Keystone Symposia and CYTO-Connect.

When he's not wrangling multi-omics data or running workshops, Thomas is working his way through his (1000+ book and growing) personal library at roughly a book a week, keeping the beat on the drum kit, or out on two wheels catching the latest MotoGP action. He also shares his home with his fiancé and a much-loved crew of cats and dogs. We're glad to have him! Welcome, Thomas! 🎉
